needs something

Your mix is clipping o.O

love the beat tho

DreamEater responds:

Clipping fixed x.x

pretty neat song. I think there is too much reverb and it lacks some sub. Sub doesn't need to be super loud, but just enough to be present.

inspired by coldplay - ghost stories by any chance? xD

okay. that breakdown was really cool actually. Such a drastic change in dynamics and you executed it perfectly. It was a breath of fresh are from the main versus.

very cool riffs on the second verse.

The mix is a bit cluttered in the mid-highs. You have a lot of the trumpet stabs and strings on one panned side. I would keep them opposite to help each of them shine through.

freakin love the part at 4:14. You could've easily dragged this song over 7 minutes by just keeping that part playing for more.

I honestly can not tell if its over compression that's making everything sound (stagnate?) or you pumped up the ratio too high, or the release is too short. I definitely think the ratio/gain is pumped too much.

I would've liked to hear more high end on the snare/hihats. they really add some ground to an already groovy-riff based track.

But yeah. Ease off the compression a bit, Clean up those mid-highs with your trumpets/violins. Pan out your instruments a bit more, especially when you got those trumpet stabs going. I would love to hear an extended version with that bad ass 4:14 section.

What trumpet/violin packs are you using? I've been seeking out new libraries recently.

Love what ya do WF!
Cheers

the guy below is full of bollocks

as a fellow house head, you've accomplished everything you needed to do for this track. I'm personally not a huge fan of the "bass/tech" house sub genre, but you nailed it.

percussion needs more punch btw.

also..

I'm more into the ACTUAL (not NG tropical shit) progressive/groove tech stuff. but ye. useless review but the comment below triggered me lol

my man

decent. I really like the breakdown.

the mix needs to be more tight. there are a lot of clashing frequencies between your pads and your leads.

snare/clap could use a bit of reverb!

cool melodies tho!

cheers

why so loud :(

Lubloom responds:

Damn, I guess I overcompensated for Audacity's volume reduction when I exported as a .mp3. Hopefully the .wav is fine though.

5 stars well deserved.

your melodies are well composed/thought out. Honestly we do not have a lot of quality musicians that make this future bass-ish style on NG, so its great to have you with us!

The track needs more low end. you also lack some low-mids. Maybe switch up some of your main chord stacks into that range to make everything sound much more "full-er".

Not sure I like that fuzz effect or whatever you have that is playing with the kick?

I dig the jazz at 2:07 If you ever write new progressions like that, I would love to record a keyboard solo on it!

good use off slightly off beat bass / drum hits on your swing parts. That stuff is super time consuming to get it right.

good work mah dude. Really glad to see new faces on NG that produce quality tracks!

Miyolophone responds:

Thanks so much for the praise and feedback, Sequenced! I literally learned the basics of jazz improv overnight to make this track so I know my piano solo (while pretty good for a first try) is not really a proper solo, and it would be awesome to hear somebody else's take on that kind of progression!

solid piece. sometimes I love taking a step back and listening to simple chord rotations in an erik satie- style. You and I must have the same ear. I kept humming up the lead on to the next note and you follow suit! haha

you really like to tease the audience during those cadences towards your root I chord. cool switch up on the major I at the end there!

LucidShadowDreamer responds:

Why thank you :)
I usually like to vary the chords I use a lot. I did use some alternations, and a B-segment, but I found that for this piece, using the same/similar 8 chords with different arrangements worked really well. Basically, the piece centers around 4 keys on the piano (6 notes). I guess one could say 2 notes, if one only counts the A and G trills on the piano :p

It's cool if you were able to hum along with the piece in your head! I was wondering if the melodies were too flowy, and thus distracting :3

Thanks for the review, and for the listen!
