everything sounds fine but

really gotta work on those bass sounds. they all sound too basic, if you know what I mean.

keep at it

Everratic responds:

Thankyou for the review! I do know what you mean. I don't mind generic music, I actually listen to more pop music than electronic. So when I made the bass instrument for the song, I didn't even think about making it unique.

hmmmmmmmm, pretty dope.

I dig the wack piano solo.

Quarl responds:

Dawww. I was going to hit up your track with a review but I wasn't sure if we were allowed to fondle each other...

ah, you're getting there.

at the main part of this song, a counter melody would have been nice. it got quite repetitive there.

you've got the mixing basics down quite well now. all you really got to work on is your atmosphere. you know, pads, fx, etc.

keep up the good work.

Everratic responds:

Thankyou for the review! I agree with you and I can easily add a pad to the song and another melody. I don't have a lot of atmosphere samples though.

pretty cool. sweet melody ideas.

first thing that threw me off was that there is an odd note in your third chord. also, the snare/clap drags the song a bit.

on a plus side, your mixing is getting a lot better!

keep at it.

Everratic responds:

Thankyou for all your help, especially the advice for the kick. I changed the piano chords to make it less generic, I didn't realize a note was off. I don't play any instrument so I don't know a lot about chords. I love the snare and clap samples, their my favorite samples I have. I added compressors to those samples to make them louder, maybe that was why you didn't like them.

i don't have a lot of knowledge in the classical field so I can't really critique anything

love this song though. reminds me of some of the songs in rise of nations. :)

ChronoNomad responds:

Wow...thanks, man! Your review means a heck of a lot to me. Can't wait to hear your beach-inspired submission! ^_^

well this is lovely. great mix of different basses.

one little issue that made my ears twitch was that your kick drum had different volumes. it was quite distracting. (blame my amazing monitors :P). also, there is one saw bass that is overpowering a bit.

not a big fan of that chord progression for the breakdown.

you know what this needs? some high end pads for the climax. just to fill the mix a bit more.

at the end your track was pretty dam cool. good effort.

Oakwood responds:

Thanks for the review Sequenced!

My kick has different volumes? Well that has definately got to be your monitors because the kick stays stays at the same level throughout the entire track xD However it is mixed at a much higher volume than the rest of the track. If you'd take all the compression of the master bus the kick would be almost twice as loud as the rest...
I actually like the chord progression during the breakdown, but I'm not satisfied with the way I executed it (that was the rushed part).

Thanks a lot for the critics man, I appreciate it a lot! :D

honestly your other song was better. please try and stay away from this chord progression as much as possible. its overused and is way too cheesy.

i would give you more critique but im at the beach right now and i cant carry my studio with me. lol

Everratic responds:

Thankyou for the review. I agree and I won't use it again for a long while.

better.

first thing I have to say is remove that chorus/flanger off of your claps and hi hats. it's a very nooby thing to do. the crash cymbals need to be a bit lower in volume. your synths could use some more high frequencies.

around 00:30, the bass was a bit muffled. remember, basslines don't always have to be so low. you can raise up the octave if you have to.

TIP: i like to use maximus in my channel master. the clear master RMS preset works fine. you can tweak the bands to your liking too.

glad you took the time to read all of my post back in the AF. now all you really need is to practice on making more pro-sounding synths.

Everratic responds:

Thankyou for the review! I did not use chorus/flanger on any instrument. I agree that the crashes need to be lower, it's the first problem I noticed. I will also add more high frequencies to the synths. The bass is made up of two osc's, I can raise the octave on one of them and see if it sounds better. I used Maximus on the master channel, but I didn't use any preset. I made all the changes myself. I will try what you said. I will most likely make all these edits tomorrow morning, or tonight if I can't fall asleep.

cool ideas.

that crash at 0:33 threw me off a bit. you could use some more high passed hihats in the background there too.

IMO, i think this track would sound a lot better if it was like, 20 clicks faster lol. I just feels to slow for me.

could use some more arpeggiated synths in the background too. that'll sound awesome.

woops. that high bass note at 3:04 was unnecessary. I know you were trying to provide a bit more variation on the bassline, but just keep it as it is. it sounds nice.

neways, good effort on this. now I wanna hear this song 20 clicks faster. ;)

eatmeatleet responds:

thanks, I appreciate the notes

ah, this track got really cool around the 1:20 mark.I wish you kept going with the darkness bit for a bit more than what you had there.

melodies were well made. catchy, melodically logical, just what a chiptune needs. drums sounded fine.

if you ever do work on this track some more, I would love to hear a longer breakdown. that chord was just soo yummyand delicious for it not to be played longer.

Genclops responds:

Thanks for the kind words. Sometimes keeping the tastiest spots short keeps a listener coming back to listen again :)
