nice man, a lot better than your other chip song. I think more focus on melodies than the step would make me give you 5 stars.

N3z-3 responds:

I wouldn't call other one chip song because It's only partially 8-bit sounding.

not bad. you got a good sense of chords, melodies, and timing. all you have to do now is clear up your frequencies. you should cut low freq. for the synths, and pump up the mid freq for your pads and things like that. also, make sure you don't have the bass and the kick on the same frequency. that is generally why a song can sound muffled.

Also, make sure you raise the high frequencies for your hihats and clap/snares. it's hard to hear them.

keep it up.

Zafrece responds:

Ya, i was having a huge problem when eqing the bass with the kicks. i tried moving kick around to make room for the bass, but in the end they over lapped and there wasn't much i could do about it( or knew how rather). in the first uploaded version i had lowered the 50-100 hertz range to solve that problem, but then lost the body of the kick and bass and the mix sounded rather empty. i kinda tossed a coin and raised it back up to give it some body. I actually had to lower allot of the mid as it was too, as it was eating up the entire mix. i added allot of sweeping hertz on the pads that caused allot larger file size than i intended. Also several lover lapping freqs at different times. each would have taken a separate automation to fix but the file size didn't allow me to post it. i have a better mastered version but the file size is 21 mb in mp3. I will most certainly fix the hats and snares and re upload pretty soon. I appreciate the time you took to toss me some advice, its always appreciated and is mainly what has helped me get to where i am right now. I still have a long way to go in several areas, mastering and mixing is the main one. thanks again for taking time to drop a review off and i hope you keep track of my future works. Possibly even drop some feed back on them aswell. =)

Hazzah! This is the kind of metal I enjoy. Added you to my favorites. :)

PirateCrab responds:

And more of this metal shall be pumped out soon! Muchly appreciated fella!

not bad for being new. first of all, if you want to get into producing, do not start out with dubstep-like songs. (overusing bass, basically). you should really try and experiment and find out what kind of sound YOU want to make.

when mixing any type of electronic song, you always want to cut off the bass frequencies on your melodic/lead synths, and raise the high end freq.

for your bass, make sure that the kick drum / bass isn't using the same freq. You got to balance it out.

I can't really critqiue melodic wise because that's where creativity comes in. Just keep doing trial and error and eventually you'll find the spotlight.

keep it up

Ectohelix responds:

Thanks for that review and critique! I found it very helpful. I employ the use of compression 'ducking' already, but that's a good point about also watching the higher frequencies as well! I'm considering just EQing everything as I go along, sampling the result, and then constructing songs from the samples.

pretty chill dude. you got some good herpaderpsteps going on here.

I think a full on 8 bit version of this would sound so much better IMO. you should try that. ^__^

-.5 because the atmosphere felt kind of dull - too much dry stuff going on. Add more reverb!!!

cool cya

Kirbyfemur responds:

I've been trying to be careful of the amount of effects i've been using and focusing onclarity of sound. But i may just add a bit of verb to fill the sound a bit more. Thanks man! :3

nice stuff man. keep making more!

z-raven responds:

course.

It's been a while since I've stumbled upon your music. I've never really excelled in the classical genre, so I envy the skill that you have to create these melodies!

Everything was written beautifully. The transitions were well done, the movement of each peace flowed nicely, and every instrument was there when it needed to be.

My only complaint is that there was no memorable theme for all of the songs. All of them kinda felt like separate songs, you know what I mean?

You should check out Jerry Martin's music in Simcity 3000. There's about 12 tracks and all of them as at least one main melody that is played in almost every song.

If you take what JM does with his soundtracks and use the way he makes themes ( not exactly like him but you get the point), then your music will become ten times better. It's already good now, don't worry about that. lol

Keep up the amazing work man. I rarely review classical music so sorry if whatever I say doesn't make sense!

Peace.

Step responds:

Hey man, thanks for the detailed review!

Thanks! Although these aren't actually my melodies. This is a medley, remixing different tunes of the game Monster Hunter Tri. Some of the melodies and background chords are mine, but otherwise the composition is all from Monster Hunter :P. My latest original orchestral track is Sanctuary, which I submitted towards the beginning of the year. This year so far has been pretty much a remix-year for me, haha.

Awesome, thanks for pointing that out!

Aha yes I see exactly what you mean. The thing about that is that these themes are around a minute long each and I didn't want to include a main theme in each one when each theme is so small. The reason they're sounding so separate from each other is because strictly speaking they are separate themes in-game. I tried as hard as I could to unite everything together but yeah, I agree that having a main melody in each theme would definitely tie everything together a lot better.

Naw man it makes tonnes of sense. Thanks a lot for leaving a review, I very much appreciate it :3.

woahhhhh you're still here! it's dj-bill hahahaha.

I see that you've never stopped using presets. Your melodies are excellent anyways so I don't really care that much. :)

Keep it up dude, we have so much to catch up on. you got skype or msn?

586rick responds:

I got MSN but not skype

thanks for the review

glad to see you're still here. :) my only comment on this is to make this song faster. I recommend 150bpm for dubstep songs like this one. 140 doesn't really have that much energy any more.

AsteroidBlues responds:

Where will i go dude? ) I`m stuck here with you guys for eternity xD
Good idea with bpm, gotta try.

ohai thar. I remember you a while back - asked for that album. Still sounds good. ;)

and I wouldn't really call this dubstep... it's more videogame-ish? needs more bass if you want it to be dub...

neway's, I still love your chord progressions. keep 'em up.

AsteroidBlues responds:

Hey )
Hope i sent you that album )) I really got a lots of responses that time so memory is kinda mixed about what i did and what did not ))
Thanks for an opinion )
