That saw synth is really cheesy man. You got to change up your sound banks.

Your track origination is getting a lot better than it was a couple months ago.

around the 1:55 your synths were clashing a bit. please clean up your EQ next time ! ( or try to stay away from only using saws at that low of an octave.)

your melodies flow a lot better now too. I'm glad to see you've improved this much over the past 6 months.

BTW I was sequenced, if you remember. :P

I just released another house track. you should check it out ;)

keep it real bro

Everratic responds:

Hello, I do remember you, Thankyou for this review!

I actually made it myself, it wasn't a preset, but I agree, it could have been much better.

Wow, nobody gave me EQ'ing advice for an extremely long time. I will remember that tip for next time!

I remember when I first experimented with saws and they didn't sound good with more than 1 note was playing at the same. I thought that was a synthesizer glitch, I didn't know it applied to all basic saw instruments.

My melodies have improved thanks to Johnfn.

I will definitely check out your house track tomorrow night since I'll be very busy later.

your drums are kind of harsh for the type of atmosphere you have here. after about 2 minutes in of just hearing the same chord progression replay itself, it got kind of boring.

the main melody line was kinda cool. honestly the main point here is to add more variation to your track. this whole thing can be cut down to about 2 minutes tbh.

keep it up, friend. everyone starts out somewhere.

Chemiqals responds:

Thanks for the feedback!

Not bad at all. Comments have already been made about using premade loops from Garageband, so I won't repeat that.

The only thing I would suggest is to include a 4x4 beat drum to make it an "actual" techno song. What you have here sounds like a 3 minute build up. There was no beat intro, or a beat outro. Just an atmospheric track. If you want it to keep it like this, then I would suggest putting this track into Ambient instead of Techno..

You should definitely look into a program that isn't Garageband. Gb is a limited program and you can only do so much with it.

Keep it up, friend.

BurningBinary responds:

I actually am looking hard at logic, because I already feel the limitations of garageband, but it came with the macbook when I bought it, so there you have it. The 4x4 is great advice, so thanks for that! Drum tracks are something I am working hard to gain experience with, because I have very little at this point...

Cool synth sounds, very dreamy. However, I don't think this type of dnb fits well with that first synth. maybe make a more chilled dnb track with it next time?

I wasn't quite sure what to feel with that reese bass and all of your soft plucky synths. I don't know if it's just me, but all of them don't seem to fit together.

Your mixing is fine. I suggest adding a sub to really fill up your low end. (If it's there, sorry. I just woke up so I can't hear everything quite well yet).

Also, I hope that this isn't a finished track. Your build didn't go anywhere.

anyways, keep working at it. You got potential.

TheyCallMeCaudex responds:

I think you're first complaint might be just a matter of taste, I have come across a few tracks that people have said were awesome, but I had the same 'doesn't fit well with itself' problem.
I do, however, think a sub bass is a good idea, ad am definitely going to extend the song to a more satisfying length.
Thanks for the review!

nice improv, my fellow pianist :3

I do improv myself. i play better that way rather than learning/playing song that isn't mine.

maybe i should record something too... we'll see.

great material man... keep it up

BlazingDragon responds:

Yes, go forth and record improvisation! It captures your musical personality in a very different way than pure composition. It's a lost art in many ways, and I'd love it to become more common.

Thanks for your review!

Good start I guess.

You really need to practice on making sure each sample, instrument, and fx has it's own sort of frequency. Look up the basics of spacing out a mix. Everything in this track sounds kind of dull if you know what I mean.

You got some good ideas. I'm glad that you're not one of those "MUST HAVE DROPS IN EVERYTHING" kinds of artists. :)

Oh yeah, work on the synths a bit more too. that saw gets a bit annoying at times.

GershBeats responds:

I know what you mean - but that's not entirely true, the important thing is that no frequency is ever maxed out, not necessarily that only 1 instrument plays on each frequency. Which instruments do you think clash the most? (I guess cuza this comment system inbox me? if you care lol)

I'll think about switching up the saw! Anyhoo, thanks for the compliment and review :)

Same chords over and over again. Please start introducing new ideas to one song instead of keeping the same shit for 5 minutes long.

It gets kind of old.

Keep trying.

SKILLZmakeKILLZ responds:

If we had a different chord every 4 beats it wouldn't be much of a song, more like a collection of chords lol.

not a huge fan of fl studio's love philter, but hey you seem to got it working with this piece.

are you familiar with bonobo? your music is very similar to his. :)

Anti-Citizen responds:

Absolutely! Saw him live this year, good stuff. By the way it's not the love filter, it's the free filter with an envelope. Thx for the review. :D

haikus
will make you insane
cause i don't follow rules

Quarl responds:

Very bad haiku.

Very bad haiku.

you really need to work on your synths man. most of them sound kinda generic and boring.

also, the kick should be softer than the snare in terms of volume. you really gotta look out for balance.

work on your atmosphere as well. fiddle with the reverb /delay effects and see what you can come up with.

keep at it. you'll eventually get 5 stars from me. ;)

Everratic responds:

Thankyou for the review!
I will remember this for my next song.
In my last dubstep song i spent an hour alone on balancing the kick and snare and It was so frustrating that I didn't want to do it again this time. I made a mistake and should have done that again.
